JAYCO, 50 YEARS OF BUILDING FAMILY FUN

It’s not often you find a company celebrating its 50th anniversary, let alone one that was founded and is still run by the same family.

Rick Kessler, the managing editor of RVBusiness Magazine, sat down with Derald Bontrager, CEO and Wilbur Bontrager, Chairman of the company for a sometimes personal look back at the history of the family owned company and their involvement starting back when they were just children.

As you’ll see in the story, the company actually started in a barn located in the family farm. It was fifty years ago when that first Jayco pop-up trailer rolled out of the barn, and as the story goes, they have not looked back since.

Sure there were difficult times both personal and business-wise, but through it all the family stuck together and persevered through those times and today, Jayco has multiple production facilities in various states and employs a few thousand people.

The product line has expanded from the first pop-up camping trailers to include, travel trailers, 5th wheels, class C motorhomes and luxurious, diesel-powered Entegra motorhomes.

In the past year and a half, Jayco was bought by Thor Industries and even though the ownership has changed, Derald and Wilbur are still at the helm and running the company as they have for years.
